Earth Day, Flawed Designs, and Nuclear Radiation

 

Earth_Day_2011_Icon It is Earth Day and the alarm bells are sounding! We have faced the some of the worst energy related disasters in the last year or so, and there has not been any significant policy changes or visible signs we have started heading in a better direction. With the nuclear disaster in Japan continuing to unfold and spread across the globe, we would expect to see some changes in “business as usual.” The changes thus far are not what one would hope. Despite the earthquake and tsunami causing much of the damage to the nuclear plant, the bigger problem was in the flawed design. The backup power supply was knocked out by the same calamity that knocked out the primary power supply. This means the backup is NOT REALLY A BACKUP! Read the rest of this entry »
