In less than two weeks, the U.S. House and Senate are voting on bill H.R. 875 that, if passed, will put an end to organic farming. Basically, this bill states that a “Food Safety Administration” would be established within the Department of Health and Human Services, who’s core responsibility would be “to protect the public health by preventing food-borne illness, ensuring the safety of food, improving research on contaminants leading to food-borne illness, and improving security of food from intentional contamination, and for other purposes.” This bill will require farms to use specific fertilizers and poisonous insect sprays dictated by the newly formed Administration to “make sure there is no danger to the public food supply.” Read the rest of this entry »

Genetically modified foods are sneaking on to the shelves throughout supermarkets all across the globe, even under the label of “organic.” Without proper labeling and the distinction of genetically modified ingredients, it becomes impossible to tell what exactly we are putting into our bodies. If someone has an adverse side effect of a genetically modified food or ingredient, there is no way to deduce the source of the problem. Read the rest of this entry »
