Our Similarities Are Greater Than Our Differences

 

Iranian_WomenWhen everyone realizes that we are all one and that we can’t harm someone without harming ourselves, all war will perish.

It has only been a few years since Iran was considered an enemy of the United States of America, part of the so-called “Axis of Evil.”  We were told, “They hate our freedoms,” and though radical extremists can be found in many countries, like this one, the majority of the people fall somewhere in the middle.  While our countries have their differences, the largest differences seems to be between our apparent leaders, and their rules. Life and Death, Two Parts of the Same Thing

 

Louis_SilversteinWhy is death so scary for most people in our culture?

According to Louis Silverstein, Ph.D. and Professor at Columbia College, there are several reasons.  It is partly due to a lack of exposure to natural death, the negative and violent impressions made by mass media, as well as a fear of getting older.

Louis teaches a class on Death and Dying and recently wrote a book on the subject titled, “Encountering Life’s Endings.” We recently had a chance to sit down and interview Louis about his class, his new book, and why it is so important for him to share this message. Read the rest of this entry »
