Codex_AlimentariusIn 1963, the Codex Alimentarius Commission was established by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations and the World Health Organization (WHO).  They are recognized by the World Trade Organization (WTO) as an international standard with regards to food safety and consumer protection, and their aim is to have control of the standards of the world’s food supply and industry. Grocery_bagAs more and more GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) show up in our food today, it’s important to call immediate attention to the implications of allowing large corporations to continue to run our farming and food systems. Purchasing brands that promote GMO-Free foods can help ensure the health of you and your family. In turn, you are also giving less power to companies like Monsanto, where one biotech consultant stated, “The hope of the industry is that over time, the market is so flooded that there’s nothing you can do about it. What’s Happening to Our Food?

 

Future_of_Food Genetically modified foods are sneaking on to the shelves throughout supermarkets all across the globe, even under the label of “organic.”  Without proper labeling and the distinction of genetically modified ingredients, it becomes impossible to tell what exactly we are putting into our bodies.  If someone has an adverse side effect of a genetically modified food or ingredient, there is no way to deduce the source of the problem.
