Is This the End of Organic Food?

 

Organic_FarmIn less than two weeks, the U.S. House and Senate are voting on bill H.R. 875 that, if passed, will put an end to organic farming. Basically, this bill states that a “Food Safety Administration” would be established within the Department of Health and Human Services, who’s core responsibility would be “to protect the public health by preventing food-borne illness, ensuring the safety of food, improving research on contaminants leading to food-borne illness, and improving security of food from intentional contamination, and for other purposes.” This bill will require farms to use specific fertilizers and poisonous insect sprays dictated by the newly formed Administration to “make sure there is no danger to the public food supply.” Read the rest of this entry »

You Are What You Eat

 

Grocery_bagAs more and more GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms) show up in our food today, it’s important to call immediate attention to the implications of allowing large corporations to continue to run our farming and food systems. Purchasing brands that promote GMO-Free foods can help ensure the health of you and your family. In turn, you are also giving less power to companies like Monsanto, where one biotech consultant stated, “The hope of the industry is that over time, the market is so flooded that there’s nothing you can do about it.
