In 1963, the Codex Alimentarius Commission was established by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations and the World Health Organization (WHO). They are recognized by the World Trade Organization (WTO) as an international standard with regards to food safety and consumer protection, and their aim is to have control of the standards of the world’s food supply and industry. In less than two weeks, the U.S. House and Senate are voting on bill H.R. 875 that, if passed, will put an end to organic farming. Basically, this bill states that a “Food Safety Administration” would be established within the Department of Health and Human Services, who’s core responsibility would be “to protect the public health by preventing food-borne illness, ensuring the safety of food, improving research on contaminants leading to food-borne illness, and improving security of food from intentional contamination, and for other purposes.” This bill will require farms to use specific fertilizers and poisonous insect sprays dictated by the newly formed Administration to “make sure there is no danger to the public food supply.” Read the rest of this entry »
