According to Dr. Bruce Lipton, author of the book, “The Biology of Belief,” many of our thoughts and beliefs originate from other people, like our parents and friends, and our subconscious mind works like a recording device to store all of these “programs”. Our entire perception of the world is a culmination of verbal and non-verbal suggestions that we experience throughout our lives. Life and Death, Two Parts of the Same Thing

According to Louis Silverstein, Ph.D. and Professor at Columbia College, there are several reasons.  It is partly due to a lack of exposure to natural death, the negative and violent impressions made by mass media, as well as a fear of getting older.
